Description

Bought from the Gem Trader. A little darker than the vendor pic (as many of his stones are), but beautiful in direct lighting. It's a nice stone, and I'm just never going to get around to set it, so it's been languishing in a drawer.

It is eye clean and 7.4mm x 5.3 mm.

"Blue Tourmaline (Indicolite) is one of the most sought after, yet difficult to source, colored gemstone materials. There are plenty of both grayish and greenish blue gems in the market, but the truly blue gems that are desired are exceptionally rare. There are some strikingly blue gems found in East Africa, but they are often extremely dark, almost as to appear black in normal light. We had a small piece of rough of that type - in strong light it was sapphire blue - but cut into a stone that was too large it would be overly dark. Determining what size of stone would come out just right was a challenge, but we finally managed to get this stone - in many ways is the 'perfect' blue Tourmaline. Moreover, despite its weight, it is nicely broad and faces up as a stone of at least a carat. The color is an outstanding medium dark blue with no discernable trace of modifier, the gem is totally clean and the color is stable in different lighting - it will not go green on you. A special stone that is genuinely deserving of the term Indicolite."
